ACE received over 1340 applications for regular funding. A lot will be unhappy, but I am sure that many would have had a good case.
Meanwhile if an opera house writes as its application "Mary had a little lamb", I'm pretty certain that its grant would be safe.
The Vortex didn't apply, as we were discouraged somewhat at this juncture. The last application for Grants for the Arts was turned down for being "too commercial" (£15000 for improving web site and setting up recording of gigs). So we continue to put on our highly commercial programme of jazz including Alex Hawkins tonight, Django Bates tomorrow etc.
Either we are doing something wrong in terms of how our applications are put together or our programme needs to be even less (!) commercial than it already is?
